France confirmed 4.8 million coronavirus cases and 96,000 dead from the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The previous peak was registered in November, with a big drop in new infections over the winter. But in spring the number of cases started to grow significantly again.
Sputnik comes live from Paris, as France is entering its third national lockdown amid a new spike in coronavirus which has been complicated by mutated strains of the virus. Schools and non-essential businesses will be closed and a nighttime curfew will be imposed between 7pm and 6am. Travelling more than 10km from home without a reason will be also banned.
