Rapper Lil Nas X has revealed he has “lost control of the right side of his face” but has reassured fans he is “fine”.
The 26-year-old artist posted a video on social media in which he is in a medical facility, trying to move his mouth and laugh, but one side of his face remains motionless.
In a post posted to Instagram, the Old Town Road rapper, whose real name is Montero Hill, said: “By the way, that's me smiling big right now.”
“It's like, damn, I can't even laugh properly. Oh my God.”
In a subsequent post, he added: “Here I am normal (shows left side of face) and here I am crazy (shows right side).”
He then urged his fans to “stop being sad for me,” inviting them to “dance for me instead.”
Famous friends and fellow musicians wished the artist all the best, and Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson responded: “Sending you love.”
The rapper did not specify the reasons for his problem or the circumstances that led to his hospitalization.
According to the NHS, temporary disorders that can cause facial problems include Bell's palsy, which causes weakness or lack of movement on one side of the face, and Ramsay Hunt syndrome, in which a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near the ear.
Singer Justin Bieber has cancelled a number of dates on his 2022 Justice World Tour due to his condition Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
Lil Nas X began his career in 2015 and rose to fame with the country-rap single Old Town Road in 2018. He has two UK chart-topping singles and one UK top 10 album.
The star's next performance will take place at the Outloud festival in the US, which will run from May 31 to June 1.
