The sender of the message was referred to only as “CG” in the course of the trial.

Gilroy published the apology on his Twitter account on the night to Tuesday:

“I just wanted to clarify, it was sent privately and not part of any group chat.

“Regardless, my comment was completely inappropriate and is not an accurate reflection of my beliefs or values Ulster Rugby.

“I take full responsibility for their actions in the future will be to ensure that the language I use in private or public better reflects who I am and what I stand for. I deeply regret the pain my comments caused. Craig”.

Jackson and Olding expressed a desire to return to the game. But they are still relieved of their duties until completion of the sports review.

Jackson was found not guilty of sexual harassment.

Two other men were unanimously acquitted of lesser charges related to the same incident in June 2016.

Blaine McIlroy, 26, was acquitted of the impact, while Rory Harrison, 25, was found not guilty of obstruction of justice and withholding information.
