Prime Minister Michael Martin called for an end to the war in Gaza, describing images of starving children as “horrific”.
Mr Martin called for an increase in the volume of humanitarian aid intended for delivery to Gaza.
The statement comes after reports of children dying from malnutrition and starvation in recent days.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are facing critical shortages of food, water and humanitarian aid.
It comes after Tanaiste Simon Harris signed a joint statement with 25 others calling for an end to the conflict in Gaza on Monday.
Mr Harris, who is also Foreign Secretary, said “the suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached unimaginable levels”.
In a social media post, Mr Martin wrote: “The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. The suffering of civilians and the death of innocent children is unbearable.
“I support the call by the foreign ministers of 28 countries for the release of all hostages and an increase in humanitarian aid.
“This war must end, and it must end immediately.”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres described Gaza as “a horrific spectacle with levels of death and destruction unparalleled in recent memory.”

He noted at a Security Council meeting: “The problems of hunger are rapidly increasing. Hunger is knocking at every door.
“We are now witnessing the last gasp of a humanitarian system based on the principles of humanitarian aid.
“This system lacks the conditions to function. It lacks the capacity to supply. It lacks the security to save lives.”
