Israeli Strikes on Gaza Kill at Least 20 as War Continues

At least 20 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip overnight and Saturday, according to local medical officials.

The war with Hamas has been going on for 20 months, even as Israel has opened a new front with massive strikes on Iran, prompting retaliatory strikes with drones and missiles.

Another 11 Palestinians were killed overnight near food distribution points run by an Israeli- and US-backed aid agency, in the latest in near-daily clashes near the sites since they opened last month.

Palestinian witnesses say Israeli troops opened fire on the crowd, while the military says it fired warning shots near people it believes to be suspects approaching its positions.

These objects are located in military zones where independent journalists are not allowed.

The Israeli military said it fired warning shots overnight to drive away a group of people from its forces operating in the Netzarim corridor, and one of its planes shot down a man who continued to approach.

The private contractor that runs the facilities, Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, said they were closed on Saturday.

However, witnesses report that thousands of people have still gathered in the area, desperate for food as the Israeli blockade and military operation have brought the region to the brink of famine.

Al-Awda Hospital said it had received eight bodies and at least 125 wounded from gunfire near a GHF facility in the central Gaza Strip.
