During September 2025, Ukrainian freight firms obtained 1,216 fresh and pre-owned tractor units. The reported number is 22.2% beneath the September 2024 mark, yet 9.1% exceeding this year’s August figures – demonstrating a gradual market resurgence after the summer downturn.
This information is provided by Delo.ua, citing insights from specialists at the Institute for Auto Market Research.
Throughout September, local resales accounted for 60.9% of total registrations, representing 741 pieces of equipment. A further 32.2% consisted of secondhand tractor imports (391 units). Altogether, “trucks” possessing prior usage comprised 93.1% of all registrations. Brand-new tractors represented merely 6.9% of the market (84 units).
The sector’s trends across subcategories are as follows:
- The resale of tractor units domestically in September showed a rise of 10.4% against August, though remained 22.2% lower compared to September of the prior year;
- Used tractor imports grew by 4.8% in comparison to the preceding month, but stood 21.3% below last year’s figures;
- New tractor imports exhibited the most prominent growth, escalating by 18.3% relative to August, but still trailing 2024’s September by 26.3%.
Top models in the domestic market
The leading choice in used tractors on the local market remains the DAF XF—a genuine “people’s darling” among Ukrainian carriers. Its appeal rests on its dependability, spare component availability, and favorable ownership costs.
The MAN TGX and Mercedes-Benz Actros secured second and third place, drawing carriers due to their construction excellence and advanced technological features. Trailing these are the Volvo FH and Scania R-series, consistently picked by truckers for their comfort during extended journeys.
Among the “classics,” the Renault Magnum preserves its standing – irrespective of its age, it remains popular owing to its expansive interior. The DAF CF and Renault Premium consistently feature as well – budget-friendly “workhorses” intended for local hauling.
Imports of secondhand tractors
Within the import division, the MAN TGX takes the lead, sharing the top spot with the DAF XF. Next in line are the Volvo FH and Scania R-series, occupying premium segments within the trade.
Notably, the Renault T-series has begun appearing among top imports, signifying this model’s progressively enhanced standing in Ukraine. Concurrently, due to import restrictions imposed by the Euro-5 standard, older Renault Magnum or Scania P-series are diminishing in frequency.
New tractor units
In the realm of new tractor units, Iveco S-Way emerged as the definite frontrunner – attributed to cutting-edge tech, competitive pricing approaches, and favorable lease arrangements. The MAN TGX and Scania R-series also secured positions in the top three, retaining consistent demand among larger fleets.
The Volvo FH and Mercedes-Benz Actros are favored by those who emphasize utmost comfort and technology. Towards the classification’s lower end is the Iveco Stralis, progressively exiting the marketplace in favor of the more current S-Way.
Experts conclude that the Ukrainian truck tractor market’s September 2025 results reflect a gradual rebound following a yearlong diminution. In spite of secondhand vehicles taking precedence, the need for modern long-haul models is increasing thanks to vibrant financing schemes and fleet rejuvenation. Simultaneously, DAF, MAN, and Iveco continue to be the labels shaping the character of Ukraine’s trucking sector.
As an addition, in August 2025, Ukrainian carriers acquired 1,115 new and used tractor units. This registers 40.5% less than during August 2024, yet 2.1% surpassing this year’s July outcome.
