The Chinese car manufacturer BYD has reported the biggest vehicle recall in its operational history — over 115,000 automobiles from the Tang and Yuan Pro series manufactured from 2015 through 2022 — as a result of structural shortcomings and security concerns associated with the batteries.
This is reported by Delo.ua citing Reuters information.
Notably:
- 44,535 units of the Tang series (2015–2017) are being taken back due to structural imperfections in components that may trigger atypical performance;
- 71,248 electric Yuan Pro automobiles (2021–2022) are being withdrawn due to difficulties in battery installation.
Earlier this year, BYD withdrew 6,843 Fangchengbao Bao 5 hybrid SUVs due to the possibility of fire, and in September 2024, almost 97,000 Dolphin and Yuan Plus electric vehicles due to a steering defect that could potentially lead to fire risk as well.
The Chinese market regulator has verified the recall strategy and will oversee its execution.
Separately, the German automotive company BMW recalled greater than 196,000 autos in the United States since the engine start relay could undergo corrosion.
