Apple has inked a pact worth $700 million to air Formula One competitions within the United States, aligning with Amazon and Netflix as it broadens its provision of live sports streaming even further.
Delo.ua reports on this issue, citing an article from the Financial Times.
The accord gained formal confirmation this past Friday, leading up to the US Grand Prix held in Austin. The broadcast of Formula 1 on Apple platforms is slated to start in the 2026 season.
Financial details
This fresh alliance is estimated to set Apple back approximately $140 million on a yearly basis, a notable increase from the sum previously allocated by ESPN (roughly $85 million).
For Formula One’s leadership, this agreement stands as a pivotal stride toward amplifying its presence within the United States. Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula One, conveyed that Apple’s participation would guarantee that Formula One is poised to penetrate additional venues, delve deeper into American fan culture, and engage a more youthful demographic.
The success of the film “Formula 1”
This collaboration arises following the immense triumph of the film “Formula 1,” starring Brad Pitt, which marked Apple TV+'s inaugural major box office success, amassing nearly $630 million, thereby underscoring Apple's prowess in promoting the sport to novel audiences.
Apple intends to showcase every phase of the contests: practice rounds, qualifying sessions, sprint events, and Grand Prix championships.
Furthermore, the enterprise pledges to “harness everything Apple has to offer,” spanning from physical retail locations to the entirety of its suite of ecosystem applications (encompassing sports, podcasting, music, Apple TV, and Apple News).
It is worth recalling that Apple is proactively gearing up for forthcoming shifts in the company’s leadership and is weighing the option of nominating John Turnus, the head of the hardware division, for the role of CEO, as a successor to Tim Cook upon his departure.
