Ukrainian pension legislation provides that for several more years, the requirements for retirement by age will be tightened. So, in order to receive this type of pension upon reaching the age of 60, in 2025 a citizen must have at least 32 years of insurance experience, and the following year – already 33 years. It happens that a future pensioner expected to go on a well-deserved rest, hoping for a certain amount of pension, but some periods of the PFU did not count him as an insurance experience and accrued smaller payments to the citizen. Or due to insufficient experience, he was denied allowances.

Viktor Bogdanov, a pension expert for the publication “Na pensiyi” (Retirement) , talked about why this happens and what people should do in such cases.
According to him, part of the length of service that affects the amount of payments may not be counted, in particular, due to inaccuracies or errors in the work book. For example, if the document contains an incomplete name of the enterprise or there is no signature of the person in the record of dismissal from work.

According to the expert, these are miscalculations by employers, but the pensioner is forced to deal with them. At the same time, he quotes one of the rulings of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, which considered a similar case: “Formal inaccuracies in documents cannot be a basis for restricting a person from exercising his constitutional right to social protection.”
The pension expert emphasizes that it is the PFU that should take measures to clarify information in such cases.
Regarding confirmation of seniority in case of inaccuracies, this can be done by contacting the enterprise or company where the person previously worked. If they have been liquidated, then to the archive.

“Also, in the event of non-crediting of part of the length of service or even refusal to grant a pension, the pensioner can file a lawsuit, using free legal assistance,” added Viktor Bogdanov.
We remind you that citizens who plan to retire have the opportunity to apply to the PFU with a request to not take into account their low salaries, which they received during the war, when calculating pension payments. Since the amount of the pension depends on both the length of insurance and the amount of the salary from which the Social Security Contribution was paid, this may slightly increase the payments.
