The United Nations is holding a tribute to the organization’s former secretary-general Kofi Annan.
Annan, who became the first black African secretary-general in 1997 and served until 2006, died on August 18 in Switzerland after a brief illness. He was awarded the Noble Peace Prize jointly with the UN in 2001.
