Trump's Takeover of Washington Begins with Arrival of National Guard Troops

Some of the 800 National Guard troops deployed by US President Donald Trump began arriving in the nation's capital on Tuesday.

This comes after the White House ordered federal forces to take control of the city's police department and reduce crime in the city, which the president, without any basis, called a lawless city.

The influx of refugees began the morning after Mr Trump announced the deployment of security personnel and the department's takeover.

He referred to the crime situation, but he meant the same crime, the level of which, as city authorities emphasize, is already significantly decreasing.

The President has the legal right to take such measures for at least a month.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has pledged to cooperate with federal officials appointed by Mr. Trump to oversee law enforcement in the city, while insisting that the police chief will remain responsible for the department and its officers.

“Regardless of how we got here or how we feel about the situation, we have more police now and we want to make sure we use them,” she told reporters.
