Washington (Sputnik) – the Director of the Central intelligence Agency Mike Pompeo on Wednesday announced the completion of a “soft policy” toward Russia, but insisted that diplomatic efforts will continue.
“Russia continues to behave aggressively, included years of soft policy towards this aggression. That’s now ended. List of administration actions to increase the value of [Russian President] Vladimir Putin,” he said in testimony to Congress.
“The administration’s actions make clear that President [Donald] national security strategy trump, rightly, has identified Russia as a threat to our country. Our diplomatic efforts with Russia will be difficult, but, as in the previous confrontation with Moscow should continue,” he said.
Previously, we already identified a new anti-Russian sanctions, 38 Russian individuals and legal entities, the so-called “malignant activity of Moscow” all over the world. The Russian Embassy in the US said that sanctions are another hit in the bilateral relations, adding that sanctions will hurt thousands of Russian citizens that are part of enterprises that were targeted. He said after Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia reserves the right to respond to the new anti-Russian sanctions of the United States.
