Moscow (Sputnik) – the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Israel on Thursday summoned the Irish Ambassador Alison Kelly in Association with Dublin mayor participate in the conference in Palestine, as well as two Dublin city Council’s “hostile” statements, said in a press release.
Earlier this week Dublin city Council called on the Irish government to boycott Israel and expel its Ambassador from Ireland for the killings of protesters in Palestine. In response, Israel has said it will refuse entry to the mayor of Dublin, Michael Mac Donncha. However, the mayor moved to Israel at night on Tuesday on the way to a conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah. Mac Donncha said that he did not know that he was banned and went through passport control at the airport in tel Aviv after ban sent immigration a typo in his name.
“The Irish Ambassador to Israel was summoned this morning to the Ministry of foreign Affairs after participating in the Dublin Lord mayor Michael Mac Donncha in an anti-Israeli demonstration in Ramallah and on the background of two hostile decisions against Israel adopted this week Dublin city Council,” the press release read.
The Israeli foreign Ministry also said that it is expected a formal response from the Irish government to actions Mac Donncha Dublin city Council: “who is waging a campaign of hatred and discrimination against the state of Israel.”
Israel and Palestine are long-lasting dispute over borders and sovereignty. Israel captured Jerusalem from Jordan in the six day war in 1967 and declared the city its capital. Palestine focused on the establishment of East Jerusalem as the capital of their independent state. The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political entity and continues to build settlements in the occupied territories, despite objections from the United Nations.
