Dozens of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in protracted war

Israeli attacks and gunfire in the Gaza Strip overnight and Wednesday killed at least 46 Palestinians, most of them in crowds seeking food supplies, health officials said.

Israel continues to deal daily blows as its military intervention and blockade have led to a “worst-case famine scenario” in the region, home to two million Palestinians, according to the International Hunger Action Agency.

Meanwhile, US envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Israel for talks after ceasefire discussions with Hamas appeared to have stalled last week.

Mr. Witkoff, who led the Trump administration's efforts to end the nearly 22-month conflict, is expected in Israel on Thursday to discuss the situation in Gaza.

More than 30 people died trying to get humanitarian aid, according to hospitals that received bodies and treated dozens of wounded.

Gaza's Health Ministry says seven more people, including one child, have died from malnutrition-related causes.

The Israeli military has yet to comment on any of the strikes. It says it is only targeting militants and blames the civilian deaths on Hamas, which operates in densely populated areas.

Gaza's Shifa Hospital said it had treated 12 people killed on Tuesday evening when Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd waiting for aid trucks leaving the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza.

Thirteen more people were killed in strikes in the city's Jabaliya refugee camp and in the northern towns of Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun, the hospital said.

Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis said it had received the bodies of 16 people it said died Tuesday evening while waiting for aid trucks near the newly built Morag corridor that the Israeli military built between Khan Younis and the southernmost city of Rafah.

Another body was also brought to the hospital – a man died as a result of an attack on a tent in Khan Yunis, according to the report.
