'Twitter Bird' sign sells for over £27,000 at auction

Twitter's iconic bird logo, which was removed from the company's former San Francisco headquarters when Elon Musk took over the social network and renamed it X, has sold at auction for almost $35,000 (£27,132).

RR Auction, which specializes in “rare and collectible items,” announced that the sign, weighing 560 pounds (254 kilograms) and measuring 12 by nine feet (3.7 by 2.7 meters), sold for $34,375. The buyer's name was not disclosed.

Mr Musk has previously auctioned off other items from the former Twitter, from signs and memorabilia to more mundane items such as kitchenware and office furniture.

Other items from tech history that sold for big sums at auction included an Apple-1 computer with accessories, which sold for $375,000 (£290,700), an Apple Computer Co cheque signed by Steve Jobs in 1976 for $112,054 (£86,864) and a first-generation 4GB iPhone sealed in its box, which sold for $87,514 (£67,840).
