Ryanair has a zero tolerance policy for excess baggage. It won't fall for the pillow and other traveler tricks

Bulging jacket pockets, three sweaters on and a pillow stuffed with T-shirts – these are just some of the tricks used by tourists to fit into their hand luggage. Ryanair has announced that it will not only fight against every extra centimetre of suitcase, but also against these and similar practices. “No more pillows or a stuffed to the brim bag from duty free (used many times).

40x20x25 and not a centimeter more – Ryanair has recently started to strictly enforce its own regulations at most airports, which state that “all our fares include one small personal bag that can be taken on board, e.g. a handbag or laptop bag (40 x 20 x 25 cm), which must fit under the seat in front of the passenger. If you need larger luggage, there are various options available.”

The airlines themselves called this practice “shock therapy for passengers”. In order not to pay an additional PLN 300 for a suitcase or backpack that exceeded the size, tourists would tear off the wheels of their suitcases or hastily rip out the buckles at the airport. Others, less desperate, cry and pay.

Now, in addition, you will not be able to take anything on board except hand luggage. This means no more pillows or purchases in the duty-free zone (here, the crew may require you to put them in your hand luggage before boarding and they will have the right to do so) – enumerates the Fly4free portal.

Wizz Air will also limit the number of additional bags that can be brought on board. As the more liberal regulations than Ryanair say, “in addition to unregistered baggage, a passenger may bring the following small items on board without paying a separate fee.”

The list is not long. It includes a blanket, coat, mobile phone, book, e-reader or newspaper and items purchased in duty-free zones. Additionally, it is possible to bring food for small children, a car seat for infants and crutches for people with mobility difficulties.

In the case of a document bag – sometimes you can bring it in without any problems, but it is worth being prepared to stuff it in your hand luggage.
