The last 16 of the Champions League is nearly done and things are looking largely encouraging for our English sides, so we are looking ahead to the details for the quarter-final draw.
Manchester City and Liverpool both take impressive leads into their respective second legs but Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur still have work to do to ensure qualification for the last eight.
Should they all make it through, it will be the first time any nation has seen five of its team reach the quarter-finals of UEFA’s continental competition.
So here are the key dates for your diary to look out for, ahead of what are sure to be some tasty two-legged ties…
When is the draw?
The draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League will be made at 11am GMT on Friday, March 16, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Are there any rules of the draw?
None. When you get to this stage of the competition, it’s a free-for-all and anyone can face anyone. So we could even see two all-England ties, depending on who gets through.
Even discounting five teams getting through, England are the only nation to have four qualify for the last eight – in 2006/7, and 2007/8.
Who is in the quarter-finals?
No one’s path is guaranteed, but Liverpool, Manchester City and Bayern Munich look fairly home and dry after racking up big wins against Porto, Basel and Besiktas respectively.
The other runners and riders are the winners of Manchester United/Sevilla, Spurs/Juventus and Chelsea/Barcelona which are both level going into their second legs, while Real Madrid lead PSG 3-1 and Shakhtar are 2-1 up on Roma.
When are the quarter-finals?
The first leg of the last-eight fixtures will be played on April 3/4, with the return legs a week later on April 10/11.
