Waterford duo named May GAA Women's Player of the Month award winners

Waterford duo Niamh Rockett and Kellyanne Hogan have won the PwC GPA Women's Camogie and American Football Player of the Month awards for May.

Meanwhile, Limerick's mascot Sian Lynch and Donegal's Michael Murphy were named Player of the Month and Footballer of the Month respectively by the PwC GAA/GPA.

The aim of the Player of the Month award is to recognise outstanding national players who have excelled in the provincial championships and the early rounds of the 2025 Irish Championship.

Niamh Rockett made history by helping Déise to their first senior championship win against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park on 31 May.

Rockett, who has taken on a free agent role this season, scored nine of Waterford's 17 points, including three in the closing minutes to seal the win.

She will be aiming to continue her excellent form in the next round when Waterford take on Dublin on Saturday, June 21.

Waterford Women's football team came close to beating reigning All-Ireland champions Kerry, with Kellyanne Hogan's six goals the deciding factor in Deise's triumph over Kerry.

Hogan made her mark against Cork in Dungarvan, winning by nine points to secure a rematch with the Kingdom in the Munster Football Championship final.

She was the first to get on the scoreboard and put in a stellar performance in midfield. The Ballymacarby woman's four-point contribution unfortunately proved insufficient as Waterford suffered another defeat to the Kingdom.

Two important wins over Waterford and Cork kept hopes alive for six games in a row, with Lynch in the spotlight. Three goals, coupled with a host of impeccable skills, earned him the Man of the Match award after a six-point win over Waterford.

In the next encounter against league champions Cork at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, Limerick, and particularly Lynch, were in charge from the start. The Limerick captain and playmaker played a key role in a decisive 16-point win that secured Limerick's place in a seventh successive Munster final.
