Tribute to former Tipp ladies football player who dies at the age of 26 years

Tributes were paid Rachel Kennelly, a former Tipperary ladies Football who passed away 26 years.

Kennelly lining with Tipperary in the 2013 all-Ireland intermediate final, and also played in the 2011 All-Ireland Junior final with her club, TV.

She also won the Giles Cup in 2012 with the Limerick Mary I, where she studied to become a primary school teacher.

Kennelly played for Tipp senior until 2014, debuted in 2009.

As reported by rté, she died from cancer.

Tipperary ladies football Manager Shane Ronayne, last night wrote to pay tribute to the player.

“On behalf of all involved with the Tipperary ladies football senior squad, I would like to Express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Rachel Kennelly, our former player, teammate and friend,” said Ronayne.

“We are all proud to have had the opportunity to train and play with Rachel and we are very happy to know her as a person.

“She will be sorely missed, but forever remembered.”

Marie Hickey, President, ladies Gaelic football, added: “we are all in the ladies Gaelic football Association is deeply saddened to learn of the untimely death of Rachel.

“Rachel has marked himself as a brilliant underage player before to represent Tipperary at the highest level, appearing on all-Ireland final day in 2013.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Rachel and friends at this very sad time.”
