The Friday night battle between Hull FC and Warrington Wolves was a stand-out ding-dong battle and not just because the fixture defied the best efforts of the Beast from the East to curtail it.
In Baltic conditions, both teams served up a real contest and one that featured a Warrington comeback that turned the tie into a real contest.

Historic start
Wakefield overcame Huddersfield to register four successive Super League wins at the start of a season for the first time in the club’s history. Their opening start underscores their billing as real contenders.
What were they thinking?
Dec Patton and Liam Watts are shown red cards for different incidents during the Super League clash between Hull FC and Warrington.
The stiff arm tackle of Warrington’s Dec Patton on Hull FC’s Bureta Faraimo was as reckless as it was unnecessary and similarly, the late headbutt of Hull FC’s Liam Watts on Dom Crosby, both of which resulted in sending offs.
Lee Radford described the action as pathetic and that sums it up succinctly.
Snow reward
With the sporting landscape snow covered last week, a special mention must be made of Hull KR and Wakefield for efforts made to fulfil their Super League fixture, but most notably the wandering, icy journey made by Warrington Wolves on Friday.
They overcame closed motorways, train cancellations and blocked route-ways to make it to Hull via Manchester and then Leeds.
Unfortunately the pattern of the night didn’t get any easier with Hull securing a 21-12 victory in plummeting temperatures.
NRL returns
The 2018 NRL season gets underway later this week and already its shaping as one of the most open in recent memory. The spread of talent means every club can harbour ambitions for success and the action gets underway on Thursday when the Dragons host the Broncos.
