Exams, muscle pain, a new coach, and heavier weights in the gym and dragging the backpack on the London underground in rush hour.
No wonder Sky Sports scholar Imani Lansiquot looking forward to a few protein shakes on a warm weather training trip in April.
GB call-up and a positive attitude… what else does a 20-year-old from South London were on the radar for his second season as a senior?
Mar for any sprint athlete a bit of a lull as we transition from flashing the speed and excitement of the domestic season, a friendly reminder that we really have to get back to a little hard work!
My first year at University was fast and more and more busy end, which was crazy but a great experience. I just can’t believe how fast this year is going.
In the first week of March, I definitely went through a phase of start of spring training and enjoy a hefty dose of DOMS (muscle pain), severe fatigue and overbearing pressure of the University is growing as I prepare for exams.
For athletes, this is the time when he comes upon the back of the indoor season, we will use spring training as an opportunity to invest more money in the Bank and get those hard lessons in the outdoor season on the horizon.
Indoor campaign is also much shorter and so easier to plan, unlike for the outdoor season where you need to endurance and adaptability to progress in the championship.
So, what does this mean for my training? I went back to heavier lifts in the gym, more volume in his speed endurance and more specific approach to my technical Department.
It wasn’t easy – especially with a new coach! There is always new information to process every day, and as difficult as it may be, I appreciate the opportunity to acquire new skills.
We have a good gap between indoors and outdoors, and I see it as an opportunity to Refine and improve what is already there.
You’d think I had enough on my plate with this vigorous training regime. But the journey to and from the track sometimes-it’s a real workout!
On a good day, if you are lucky enough to avoid the poisonous traps in the tunnel, it may take a little over an hour to get there… in the car. But, unfortunately, I don’t drive!
With a wonderful Arctic weather we can, I had the pleasure to carry the backpack on the back, on the tube in rush hour, after a 20-minute walk from the station to the track.
By the time I get there, I feel like I finished Night Watch! (Game of thrones fans will relate).
Having said that, I really love what I do and the journey is worth it. In particular, in warm weather training is fast approaching-only, which means: sun, sea and cocktails… I mean protein shakes!
But more seriously, there are many benefits to training in the sun in a warm climate for a better quality study and changes in the environment, allowing you to better focus on preparation and revision.
Everything I do, working towards the big picture, which is the outdoor season. I’m excited to get out there and run my favorite distance is 100m. I’m also going to study the 200m, also works on my relay skills with the girls in the 4×100 meters.
This will be my second season as a senior and my theme for the summer is confidence. I had a great indoor season and will try to bring this momentum into the summer season.
We have the European Championships in Berlin, and I’d like to apply for 100m. This will be my first senior call-up.
In addition, my goals are to build confidence in racing circuits faster than the competition, and gaining experience in more world-class racing.
I think there is great value in small steps before you reach its peak, and so that is my mantra in my journey to 2020 and beyond.
