Bryson DeChambeau 'thrilled' about new deal with LIV Golf
The 31-year-old has signed a deal worth more than $100m (£74m) to play in the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) tournament.
His contract expires in 2026, and despite rumors that DeChambeau could return to the PGA Tour, he has hinted that his future still lies with the LIV.
Ahead of the U.S. Open at Oakmont, where he is the defending champion, DeChambeau said: “Next year (my contract) is up.
“We are planning to negotiate at the end of the year and I am very happy. They value me. I see value in what they are offering and I believe that we will come to some solution. I am looking forward to the future.
“I believe LIV will stay afloat. (Yasser Al Rumayyan, PIF governor) is a strong believer in team golf and whether everyone shares that or not, I think it is a viable option.
“I believe this is a commercially sound choice. Our team has shown positive EBIDTA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) over the last two years, so we are starting to develop and move in the right direction.
“I know my value. I understand what LIV has to offer. And I'm looking forward to the future of golf.”
DeChambeau is seeking a third U.S. Open victory after triumphs at Winged Foot in 2020 and at Pinehurst last year, where he beat Rory McIlroy in a thrilling final.
Since joining LIV Golf, he has become a regular in the major championship rankings, with his victory at the US Open last year one of his top five finishes in his last six starts.
“I think any golfer who wants to win the U.S. Open feels the same pressure.
“You can put any pressure on yourself. I try to see it as an opportunity, because there are a lot of fans around.
“I'm happy to show my skills and try to play the best golf I can, and if it's the lowest number here, great. If not, I'll have to try harder.
“It’s the pressure I put on myself, performing in front of the fans.
“It was a great year. I'm very grateful for winning the U.S. Open. I worked hard to win at Pinehurst and then I continued playing golf after that.”
