The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiga, during a shared press briefing with the Estonian Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, in Kyiv, affirmed that Ukraine consistently welcomes visits from American associates, particularly the US President's special representative, Steve Witkoff, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
“We extended invitations to high-level American officials to come to Ukraine. Witkoff was among those who received such an invitation. We are always pleased to host our American colleagues in the country,” Sibiga stated.
The Foreign Minister also pointed out that no additional invitation is required for American partners – it is consistently available.
Let us recall that on August 29, the head of the presidential administration, Andriy Yermak, had a meeting with Steve Witkoff. The meeting revolved around identifying strategies to put into practice all the agreements achieved by the presidents of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the United States, Donald Trump. Following this meeting, it was initially disclosed that Witkoff had been invited to Ukraine.
In the past, the special envoy had visited Russia on numerous occasions. The latest encounter between Putin and Witkoff occurred on August 6. The meeting went on for 3 hours. During the session, the parties “communicated signals regarding the Ukrainian situation.” Furthermore, at that period, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Russian President’s special representative for economic engagement with foreign countries, Kirill Dmitriev, stated that “constructive US-Russian dialogue is ongoing and is crucially vital for global security and peace.”
Later in October, Trump shared his thoughts on the meeting at that time . He noted that when the special envoy attended the meeting, he possessed no knowledge of Russia, Putin, or politics. The American president anticipated the meeting to last 15-20 minutes , and could not fathom the topic of discussion that spanned five hours.
