Hetmantsev again attacks the government, speculating on the subsistence minimum, — Borys Kushniruk

“Hetmantsiv, as a representative of the government, publicly criticizes the government for the non-market subsistence minimum, but does not provide any real mechanism for its revision. If he really wants changes, he should initiate the creation of an independent expert council at the State Statistics Service of Ukraine consisting of representatives of trade unions, business, scientists, and the government, which would approve a transparent methodology for calculating the subsistence minimum,” Kushniruk believes.

The economist called the current discussion about raising the subsistence minimum without economic calculations political manipulation.

“We need not just to declare figures, but to create a system that will gradually bring social payments closer to the real level of the subsistence minimum. Only then will it become the true basis of the state's social policy, and not a tool of populism,” Kushniruk added.
