Almost 10 hryvnias for gas and more than 5 hryvnias for electricity: expert predicts tariff increase

Although the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine reassured Ukrainians by leaving the electricity tariff at UAH 4.32 until April 30, 2026, the situation may change next year. In the spring and summer, electricity and natural gas tariffs may increase by approximately 25%.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

This is the forecast given by the head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities of Ukraine, Oleg Popenko . According to him, in 2026, Ukrainians can expect an increase in gas and electricity tariffs, which will be about 25% compared to the current ones.

So, the approximate cost of tariffs in 2026 may be:

  • electricity — will be 5.32 UAH per kWh;
  • natural gas – will be approximately at the level of 9.86 UAH per 1 cubic meter.

Actually, back in the summer, it became known about the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine's forecasted increase in electricity tariffs by 10−20% annually during 2026−2028. At that time, the unsatisfactory state of energy companies due to the growth of debt for services was cited as a possible reason for the increase.

At the same time, as Oleg Popenko previously explained to “FACTS”, 5.32 UAH for electricity and almost 10 UAH for natural gas are not the highest forecast indicators. Thus, depending on the scenario, the tariffs may be:

1) a market scenario in which tariffs will be equalized to actual market prices, which, however, the expert himself calls unlikely, because the cost of 1 kilowatt of electricity will be about 10 hryvnias, and the price of a cubic meter of gas can reach 25 hryvnias, which is simply unrealistic for Ukrainians to pay, especially during a war;
2) a compromise, under which the tariff for 1 kilowatt of electricity can be increased from today's 4 UAH 32 kopecks to 6.5−7 UAH, and a cubic meter of gas can increase from the current 7.96 UAH to 9.5−10.5 UAH;
3) pessimistic, in which 1 kilowatt can cost up to 8.5 UAH, and a cubic meter of gas up to 13 UAH.

A little earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a Resolution establishing a preferential amount of electricity that can be purchased at reduced prices for electric heating.
