Xai sues Elon Musk's xAI / Depositphotos
Ethereum-based gaming blockchain network Xai has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's xAI company, alleging that the name was plagiarized, which constitutes trademark infringement.

xAI causes even more confusion
The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of California, alleges that the name used by Musk's company creates confusion in the marketplace and harms the Xai brand.
Ex Populus, the developer of Xai, said it will use the XAI trademark for its blockchain gaming ecosystem and $XAI token from June 2023. It considers this a “classic case of trademark infringement” that requires court intervention.
According to the document, Ex Populus operates the Xai ecosystem, which includes a blockchain-based network designed for video games and digital transactions, offering infrastructure to support game logic, AI-based solutions, rewards, and data management across multiple applications.
The complaint alleges that the confusion began after Musk announced his company xAI in July 2023, and deepened when he announced in November 2024 that xAI planned to launch a game studio.
The lawsuit cites examples of Musk's company and himself being falsely associated with Xai, its products and services, including a chatbot called Grok, developed by xAI.
Musk's team pressured Hai about trademark rights
It is also alleged that xAI lawyers pressured the developers of the Xai blockchain to relinquish their trademark rights, leading the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to halt several of Musk’s applications, citing potential confusion.
The Xai team is currently seeking a court order prohibiting xAI from using the name, as well as damages.
Recall that Musk threatened Apple with a lawsuit, accusing it of violating antitrust laws. According to him, this is due to the ratings of the Grok AI chatbot, developed by his artificial intelligence startup xAI.
