Palestinians claim 12 killed in Israeli shelling near aid stations

At least 12 people were killed by Israeli fire and several were wounded as they walked to two aid points in the Gaza Strip controlled by a group backed by Israel and the United States, according to Palestinian medical workers and witnesses.

Israeli forces said they had fired warning shots at people approaching their positions.

Clashes have intensified in the past two weeks near new centres where thousands of Palestinians, desperate after 20 months of conflict, come for food.

Gaza hospital officials say witnesses report that nearby Israeli troops opened fire, killing more than 80 people.

At least 108 bodies have been delivered to Gaza hospitals in the past 24 hours, according to the region's health ministry.

The Israeli military said it had struck multiple militant targets in the Gaza Strip over the past day.

Eleven of the last bodies were taken to Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis.

Palestinian witnesses said Israeli forces opened fire on several people at a roundabout about half a mile from a facility run by the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) in nearby Rafah.

The Israeli military said it had opened warning fire on approaching “suspicious” individuals who ignored warnings to leave.

The report emphasizes that the shooting took place in an area that is considered an active theater of military operations at night.

Al-Awda Hospital said it received the body of a man and 29 wounded near another GHF distribution point in central Gaza.

The military said it fired warning shots in the area at about 6:40 a.m., but no casualties were reported.

A GHF spokesman said there were no reported incidents of violence at the aid distribution points, all three of which received aid on Sunday.

Last week, the organization temporarily closed the points to discuss security measures with the Israeli military and warned people to stay on designated access routes.
