We will pay less for electricity, and it's not about the blackout: what the Cabinet of Ministers decided

Against the backdrop of the blackout announced by many, unexpectedly pleasant news may be a reduction in electricity costs, and it's not just about saving money due to the physical absence of light. The reason for this is a reduction in electricity tariffs for some Ukrainians by 2/3 or 65%.

This is Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 632, which establishes a reduced tariff for electricity for Ukrainians who use it for heating from October 1 to April 30. However, this benefit has a clear limitation.

So, according to the document, for the first 2,000 kWh you should pay 2.64 UAH, not 4.32 UAH, that is, 65% less, but all kilowatts above this limit will have to be paid at the usual price. Thus, if you use a conditional 4,000 kWh during the winter, they will cost you 13,920 UAH according to the formula:

(2000×2.64=5280) + (2000×4.32=8640) = 13,920 hryvnias.

At the same time, if you had to pay UAH 4.32 for all 4,000 kWh, heating would cost UAH 17,280, which means that the savings would be UAH 3,360 during the heating season. In other words, thanks to such a benefit, when consuming, say, 4,000 kWh, you will be able to reduce your expenses by almost 20%, although this figure will decrease with increasing consumption. At the same time, a blackout will help save money on heating altogether, but then you will have to endure the cold in the house.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet of Ministers has raised prices for natural gas for some categories of consumers, the price increase will be from 2 to 3 hryvnias per cubic meter.
