Donald Trump officially opens a new golf course at his Aberdeenshire resort, saying he will play a quick round before returning to Washington to “put out fires around the world”.
The US President played a round of golf at the New Course in Menee in front of a crowd including golfers, the First Minister of Scotland and the leader of Scottish Labour.
Mr Trump also noted that the late James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery allegedly supported his golf resort and even tried to replicate the actor's voice.
Before teeing off at the New Course, the US President told the crowd: “We started with a beautiful piece of land, but we have made it even more beautiful.
“We were very warmly welcomed by this area. If I recall, we weren't exactly welcomed at first, but overall it was fine.
“But as time went on, they started to like us more and more, and now they love us and we love them.”
Mr Trump added: “I'm looking forward to playing today.
“We'll play really quickly, and then I'll go back to Washington, and we'll put out fires all over the world.
“Yesterday we did one thing – you know, we stopped a war. We stopped about five wars.
“This is much more important than playing golf. As much as I enjoy it, this is much more important.”
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the president thanked his son Eric for his contribution to the new 18-hole course, adding: “This is an incredible event.
“They said that it is impossible to zone the land, it is impossible.
“And Sean Connery said, 'Let this guy build his own golf course.'
“He said one day that everything had fallen into place. John (Sweeny) and I were talking about it last night.”
