Grigor Dimitrov to miss US Open with chest injury sustained during heartbreaking Wimbledon exit

Grigor Dimitrov's incredible 58-game Grand Slam streak has been cut short by his absence from the US Open due to a chest injury sustained at Wimbledon. The US Open will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Tennis and Sky Sports+, as well as on the NOW streaming service and the Sky Sports app, from August 24.

Grigor Dimitrov will not be able to participate in the US Open due to a chest injury sustained in a tough match against world number one Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon.

The 34-year-old tennis player lost in two sets to eventual winner Jannik Sinner in the fourth round of the grass court tournament, after which he was forced to withdraw from the competition due to a partial tear of the right pectoral muscle.

It means Dimitrov's impressive run of 58 consecutive Grand Slam titles, dating back to the 2011 Australian Open, has come to an end.

After undergoing surgery, Dimitrov sent a touching message to his fans on social media.

“Sometimes the heart wants to keep beating… but the universe has other plans for us,” Dimitrov wrote in an Instagram post, along with a photo of himself in a hospital bed.

“Withdrawing from that match at Wimbledon was one of the most painful moments of my career.

Thank you for the incredible outpouring of support – from family, friends, fans, colleagues and the entire tennis community… Your messages have truly supported me during these difficult times. Thank you all. Sincerely. The recovery begins now. See you soon. G.

The former world number three reached the quarter-finals of the US Open last year, but was forced to retire in the fourth set, trailing 4-1 to American Francis Tiafoe, due to a groin injury.
