Taliban Turns Down Afghan President’s Offer to Take Part in Elections – Reports

Moscow (Sputnik) – the radical Taliban movement rejected the proposal of the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani to take part in parliamentary and local elections in Afghanistan, reports the television station “TOLO”.

“Taliban” * slammed the upcoming elections, saying that only those who are approved in the United States, can gain power in the country, and also claiming that people “cheated” on the previous vote, according to the TV station TOLO.

The radical group also encouraged the Afghan people to boycott the elections and noted that the country is “occupied” by foreign forces.

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani presented his plans to start peace talks with the Taliban, starting with a truce and, perhaps, ending the recognition of the movement as a party and participate in elections in February. In turn, the Taliban will have to recognize the current Afghan government and Constitution, which proved to be a stumbling block in past attempts to negotiate.

Afghanistan’s forthcoming elections scheduled for October, and the Registration of candidates began on April 14.

Afghanistan has long suffered from political and social instability and security in connection with the activity of the Taliban and ISIS* terrorist groups. To solve this problem, the international community held a series of conferences to try to achieve peace in the country devastated by war.
