Israeli warplanes strike Iran's capital

Israeli warplanes struck Iran's capital overnight, hitting a plant that makes uranium centrifuges and another that makes missile components, military sources said.

Israel intercepted ten rockets overnight, while Iranian retaliatory fire decreased.

At the same time, Iran warned that any US intervention in the conflict could lead to a “full-scale war in the region.”

Israel is carrying out massive attacks on Iran's nuclear program and military facilities, which began with surprise bombings on Friday.

A Washington-based Iranian human rights group said at least 585 people, including 239 civilians, were killed and more than 1,300 were injured.

In Tehran, the Iranian capital, shops are closed, including the famous Grand Bazaar, as people queue for petrol and clog roads as they flee the city in search of safety.

Iran fired about 400 missiles and launched hundreds of drones in retaliatory strikes that killed at least 24 people in Israel and wounded hundreds.

Some rockets hit residential buildings in central Israel, causing extensive damage, and air raid sirens repeatedly forced Israelis to seek shelter.

Iran has been firing fewer rockets in each of its attacks, with only a handful fired on Wednesday. The drop in activity has not been explained, but comes after Israel targeted many Iranian launchers.

All eyes are on Washington, where US President Donald Trump initially distanced himself from the Israeli attacks but hinted at greater US involvement, saying he wanted something “much more” than a ceasefire. The US has also increased the number of warplanes in the region.
