August was the time when farmers harvested, which had a positive effect on prices – many vegetables became noticeably cheaper due to the arrival of new batches. However, already in early September, an unpleasant trend began to be noticed on the wholesale market with white cabbage, which is popular among Ukrainians.
VIDEO OF THE DAY
Thus, according to the monitoring data of the EastFruit project, the Ukrainian cabbage market is currently experiencing an off-season period. Thus, the sale of medium-sized varieties of the vegetable has almost ended, and only a few farms have started selling late varieties.
As a result, the supply of cabbage on the market has seriously fallen, which, in conditions of active trade, stimulates the growth of prices for the white-headed version of the vegetable. Goods coming from the main production regions are offered on the wholesale market at 7−16 UAH/kg ($ 0.17−0.39/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the offered batches of products, which is on average 27% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.
At the same time, analysts emphasized that despite the growth, the wholesale price of white cabbage is still 36% cheaper now than at the beginning of September 2024. Indeed, according to the Ministry of Finance portal, in August 2024, for example, the retail price of 1 kg of cabbage was 30 hryvnias.

Currently, the retail price of 1 kilogram of “white cabbage” in Ukraine is on average 16.7 UAH/kg, which is 1 UAH cheaper than in August. At the same time, due to the entry of the more expensive product into the wholesale market, we should expect an increase in retail prices, probably by the same 25%, i.e. by 3−4 hryvnia per 1 kilogram to 19−20 UAH/kg at retail.
It must be said that other varieties of cabbage – cauliflower and Beijing cabbage – increased in price even after August 15.
