OPCW Carries Out Inspection in Russia

Moscow (Sputnik) – the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons has inspected in Russia, the defence Ministry said.

The inspectors of the chemical weapons watchdog’s technical Secretariat, responsible for the verification of compliance by members of the OPCW’, arrived in the country last week, according to the Ministry associated newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star).

Separately, Portuguese officials have tested in Russia under the auspices of the organization for security and cooperation in Europe, while Russia sent its inspectors in Ireland-members of the OSCE, and the United States under the bilateral new start Treaty to reduce nuclear weapons.

Recently, Russia’s permanent representative to the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons announced that London attempted to use the international body to support the results of its investigation last scandalous poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia. Earlier, Russia, Iran, and China submitted to the OPCW with a proposal for a joint investigation into Skripal.

Skripal and Yulia was hospitalized in Salisbury on March 4, after what is considered to be a chemical attack using a nerve agent. Immediately after the incident, London has accused Moscow to attack, starting the expulsion of the 23 Russian diplomats and the freezing of bilateral contacts. Russia denied the statements of the British government, pointing out the lack of evidence.
