Russian authorities say a man suspected of killing a Russian general with a car bomb has pleaded guilty to terrorism charges and said he was paid to do so by Ukraine's Security Service.
The Investigative Committee noted that Ignat Kuzin admitted that he received money for the murder of Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, who held the position of deputy head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
Lieutenant General Moskalik died on Friday as a result of a bomb explosion in his car in Balashikha, near Moscow.
Ukrainian authorities have made no comment on the attack, which was the second in four months involving an attack on a high-profile Russian military officer that Moscow has blamed on Ukraine amid the conflict between the countries.
Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov died on December 17, 2024, when a bomb hidden on an electric scooter parked near his home exploded as he was heading to work.
The Security Service of Ukraine admitted that it organized the attack.
Kirillov headed Russia's radiation, biological and chemical defense troops, special forces responsible for protecting the army from possible enemy use of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons and ensuring operations in contaminated environments. His assistant was also a victim of the attack.
Kirillov was under sanctions by a number of countries, including the UK and Canada, for his actions during the fighting in Ukraine.
