MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that Russia while being a peace-loving state, will nevertheless continue to develop its defense capability for the sake of ensuring the country’s security.
“Russia is a peace-loving state, we are pursuing a responsible foreign policy, striving to strengthen the global stability. We will continue to strengthen the country’s defense potential, develop and modernize its armed forces,” Putin said at the start of a concert celebrating the Defender of the Fatherland Day.
“Ensuring the security of Russia, of our citizens, remains an absolute priority for us,” Putin stressed.
Earlier this week, Vladimir Putin said that competing interests between Russia and the United States were not a legitimate reason to rehash old historical conflicts thrusting the world into crisis.
During his annual address to Russian lawmakers, Putin warned the US not to deploy medium and short-range nuclear missiles in Europe, saying it would “dramatically exacerbate the international security situation” and create serious challenges to Russia.
