In October 2025, updated rules for pension payments for certain categories of citizens came into effect.
In this regard, many Ukrainian pensioners are interested in what the payments will be for another group of pensioners – people with disabilities, writes the publication “On Retirement”.

But the fact is that, for example, for civilians with the third disability group, the pension is calculated individually. Its size depends on the length of service and the basic pension that the person should receive by age. If, for example, the old-age pension is 4,000 UAH, then the disability pension is 50% of this amount — that is, 2,000 UAH.
To be eligible for such benefits, a service period of one to fifteen years is required, depending on the age at which the disability was established.

A different principle applies to military personnel. If the disability occurred as a result of an injury during service, the pension amount is 60% of the financial support. If the reason is different, it is 40%. In this case, the length of service does not matter.
The right to a military pension is preserved in three cases:
- disability acquired during service;
- the disability occurred within 90 days after discharge;
- The disability appeared later, but was caused by diseases acquired in service.
According to the PFU, the minimum payment for military personnel with the third group of disability cannot be less than UAH 9,478.

What is the disability pension of group 3 for “Chernobyl survivors”?
Pensions for victims of the Chernobyl accident are calculated according to different rules.
Payments depend on the average salary in 1986−1990, when the person worked in the exclusion zone, and on the minimum salary established by the state as of January 1, 2025.
The pension for victims is defined as compensation for actual damage caused to health. Thus, according to the PFU, a person with the third disability group who suffered from a disaster should receive no less than 6,077.70 UAH.
For accident liquidators, the pension amount is calculated based on the average salary in the country.

Note that from March 2025, Ukrainians who participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster and have the third disability group will receive UAH 10,491.96 per month.
We would also like to remind you that starting in November, pensions will be calculated in a new way, and some Ukrainians may need salary certificates from before 2000.
