It seems that soon Ukrainian housewives will have to endure a real shock: along with the increase in the price of bread, which the media has long been “preparing” Ukrainians for, the prices of sunflower oil will rise, without which it is difficult to imagine preparing most of our dishes.

Prices for this “strategic” product, according to experts, will rise to 100 hryvnias per bottle.
After all, in just the last two weeks, a liter of oil has become more expensive by 10 hryvnias, with a five-liter canister increasing in price by 50 hryvnias, and a two-liter canister by 20. And prices, according to analysts, will only increase.
One reason is the failure of the sunflower crop, which occurred due to drought and lack of rain. As a result, the grain formed weaker than expected. Unlike wheat or corn, sunflower is practically impossible to artificially water – the crop is completely dependent on the vagaries of the weather.

“The drought has done its job. Sunflower is a crop that is very difficult to irrigate. … And this year, during the active growing season of crop formation, there was an extremely low amount of precipitation, and that amount of precipitation was small, small, and had a negative impact on the harvest,” laments Andriy Kuzmych, head of the Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Rivne Region.
Another reason is that the cost of transportation and processing is also going up, which places an additional burden on the end buyer. And thirdly, Ukrainian oil remains the “star of exports”. Demand abroad is high, so a significant part of the production goes outside the country. This creates a deficit on the domestic market and pushes prices up even more.
For Ukrainians, this is a real blow to their wallets. After all, oil is a product of everyday use: from frying potatoes to canning for the winter. People have already started buying it en masse, trying to fix an even more or less acceptable price.

However, experts reassure: there will be no shortage of oil. The product will remain on the shelves, but it will cost significantly more. Experts advise not to create a stir and buy exactly as much as you need, so as not to fuel the speculative market.
Let us remind you that Brazil has also dealt a blow to Ukrainians' preferences – due to frosts in this country, coffee prices will increase.
