Next year, some pensioners will have their payments increased by UAH 2,300 — but why doesn't this fact inspire optimism?

Due to the negative forecast for the duration of the war, the Cabinet of Ministers has changed the indicators of social standards. In particular, it is projected that the minimum wage will be several dozen hryvnias lower — 8,647 hryvnias, rather than 8,688, as previously announced.

At the same time, the maximum payment will increase by 2,340 UAH, writes OBOZ.UA.

In other words, those Ukrainians who are currently receiving the maximum payments will be able to count on the biggest increase. They will be the “lucky ones” who will receive a real increase in payments.

At the same time, the situation with the majority of pensioners is not at all encouraging: the actual subsistence minimum for a pensioner is 7091.8 UAH. And these are somewhat tragic figures, since the indicated amount is not just several times more than the minimum pension – it is larger than the average pension in Ukraine. That is, the absolute majority of Ukrainian pensioners are below the poverty line.

As you know, as of June 2025, the average old-age pension was UAH 6.1 thousand, but this does not mean that most people receive that much on their well-deserved rest.

  • 3,623,145 people (35.3% of the total number of pensioners) receive a pension of up to UAH 4,000;
  • 5,724,553 people (55.8% of the total number of pensioners) receive a pension of up to UAH 5,000.

Another 521.7 thousand Ukrainians receive a pension for their years of service. These are special categories of pensioners who, having sufficient experience, can take early retirement. On average, their pension is 12,486.1 UAH. This is several times higher than the average pension, but significantly less than what judges receive. Thus, the average pension of a judge (lifetime cash benefit) is 109,311.8 UAH.

Let us remind you that in some cities, pensioners can receive additional payments from local authorities, the amounts of which cannot but please.
