Musk Slams Trump Tax Bill: It Can't Be Big And Pretty

Billionaire Elon Musk has criticized US President Donald Trump's “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill, saying it undermines his efforts to reduce the US budget deficit.

“So frankly, I was upset to see this huge spending bill that increases the deficit, not just reduces it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Mr. Musk said in an interview with CBS’s “Sunday Morning” program that aired Tuesday night.

“I think a bill can be big and it can be beautiful. But I'm not sure it can be both,” Mr. Musk added in the conversation.

Mr Musk, who is the world's richest man, was appointed by Mr Trump in February to lead a complex overhaul of the federal government as head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a sweeping tax and spending bill that implements much of Trump's policy agenda and adds trillions of dollars to the country's debt.

Mr Trump and his Republican colleagues, who passed the bill by a narrow margin, called it a “big, beautiful bill.”

Over the next decade, that would increase the federal government's debt by about $3.8 trillion, reaching $36.2 trillion, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

The US Senate is currently considering the initiative.

The DOGE website, which claims to have saved billions of dollars for US taxpayers, is riddled with errors and corrections.
