Musician Lil Nas X was arrested and briefly hospitalized for suspected intoxication after an incident in which police say he became aggressive toward officers responding to a call about a naked man seen on a crowded Los Angeles street.
The artist's real name is Montero Lamar Hill, and he was taken into custody on charges of obstructing law enforcement officials.
Officers found him on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City at around 6:00am local time (14:00 BST) on Thursday, said city police department spokesman Charles Miller.
After a confrontation with the arriving law enforcement officers, he was taken into custody. As Miller pointed out, doctors suspected drug poisoning, which is why the artist was initially transported to a medical facility.
No current information about Lil Nas X's health has been released, but within a few hours he was discharged from the hospital and taken to a pretrial detention center.
In a video published by TMZ, the artist is seen on the street wearing only underwear and shoes.
He was temporarily housed at the Valley Jail in Van Nuys, not far from the scene.
The 26-year-old Atlanta-based musician gained worldwide fame with his 2018 country-meets-hip-hop track “Old Town Road,” which set a record by staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 consecutive weeks.
His debut studio album Montero (2021), featuring an experimental sound and outrageous style, immediately topped the US charts and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Album of the Year category.
