The NBU noted that the “medical” coin was among the top ten best coins in the world.

“The commemorative coin “Land of Superheroes. Thank you to the doctors!” is a symbol of gratitude and respect for our doctors. Their courage and self-sacrifice have become an inspiration for the world, as well as for all of Ukraine,” said Andriy Pyshny, Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.

The coin was put into circulation a year ago — in July 2024. The 5-hryvnia coin was created as part of the “Immortal My Ukraine” series with a circulation of up to 50,000 pieces.

The obverse of the coin features a strip of bandage with blood oozing out in the shape of the outline of the territory of Ukraine, and the reverse features a medic's hand covering the wound. The authors of the design are artists from the ArtTrium art group Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk, and Serhiy Kharuk.

At the first stage of the competition, the 100 best coins in various categories were selected, including four Ukrainian ones:

  • “Plöntanism (Ivan Marchuk)” – in the nomination “The Most Artistic Coin”;
  • “Father's Happiness” and “Land of Superheroes. Thank you to the doctors!” – in the nomination “Most Inspiring Coin”;
  • “Love” – in the nomination “Best Silver Coin”.

The National Bank recalled that last year the Ukrainian coin “Courage to be. UA” won the nomination “Best Coin about a Contemporary Event” and entered the top 10 coins in the world according to the results of that year's international coin competition. And the coin “To the 30th Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence” became the main winning coin of this international competition among coins put into circulation in 2021.

Recall that the NBU warned Ukrainians that this year, starting from October 1, 2019, the gradual withdrawal of 10-kopeck coins from circulation will begin. However, they will continue to remain in circulation until the National Bank makes a separate decision on their final withdrawal. At the same time, banks can accept 10-kopeck coins from citizens and businesses for crediting to accounts, deposits, letters of credit and performing payment transactions.
