President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. The Head of State informed about the talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington with the participation of European leaders. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that it was an important conversation, a common vision of partners on how to achieve real peace.
The phone conversation was reported on the president's official website. Zelensky posted details of the conversation on his official Telegram channel.
“Informed about the talks with President Trump in Washington with the participation of European leaders. Ukraine confirmed that it is ready to meet with the Russian leader,” Zelensky wrote.
“It was a productive, important conversation, a shared vision of partners on how to achieve real peace. Ukraine confirmed that it is ready to meet with the Russian leader,” Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, during these two weeks after the talks in Washington, when Russia was supposed to prepare for diplomacy, Moscow did not give a single positive signal, but only launched cynical strikes on civilian targets and killed dozens of Ukrainians.
“These are all clear signals for both the US and Europe, for the leaders who will be meeting with Putin in China these days. I just spoke with Indian Prime Minister Modi about exactly what is happening now. Russia continues the war and the killings. And it is important that the Indian Prime Minister supported the need for a ceasefire… We expect this to be heard at the meetings in China,” Zelensky added.
Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
“Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister, for your words of condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased,” the president wrote, adding:
We have coordinated our positions before the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. The end of this war must begin with an unconditional ceasefire, with the necessary silence. This position is understood and supported by everyone. It is impossible to talk about peace in a substantive way when our cities and communities are under constant fire. India is ready to make the necessary efforts and convey the appropriate signal to Russia and other leaders during meetings on the sidelines of the summit.”
The President also stated that during the conversation they discussed bilateral relations, preparations for the exchange of visits, and the holding of a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, and noted that he would be happy to meet with the Prime Minister in the near future.
As a reminder, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an official visit to Kyiv. This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the declaration of independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Modi's visit to Kyiv followed his trip to Moscow on July 8. Ahead of his trip to Europe, Narendra Modi said he supported peace in the region and called for diplomatic steps to end the war.
