Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson has died at the age of 82, his family said.
Wilson was the eldest and last of three musician brothers who formed the American rock band with cousin Mike Love and school friend Al Jardine.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, Brian Wilson,” his family said in a statement on their website.
“We are at a loss for words at this time. Please respect our privacy during this time as our family grieves.
“We are aware that we are sharing our grief with the world community.”
The statement ended with the song “Love and Mercy,” referencing the film about Wilson starring John Cusack.
Famous Beach Boys hits include “California Girls”, “Surfin' USA” and “Good Vibrations”, the latter of which topped the UK singles chart.
