In October, prices for many vegetables will start to rise, and visible evidence of this was the increase in the price of carrots that began at the end of September. So far, however, the price increase has only affected wholesale lots, but after them, we should expect a price increase in the retail market as well.
VIDEO OF THE DAY
This is reported by the weekly price monitoring of analysts of the EastFruit project. According to their data, the main reason for the increase in wholesale prices for carrots was the reduction in its supply on the market due to the seasonal factor.
According to the project data, wholesale prices for carrots increased by approximately 24% in a week and amounted to 8 to 15 UAH/kg, depending on the quality of the vegetable. This is explained by the fact that almost all root vegetables of medium varieties have already been harvested, while late varieties remain in the ground, which is why there is a shortage of carrots on the market at this moment. The latter may mean that if the harvest of late carrots begins in a timely manner and there is no frost, its supply on the market will be greater, and wholesale prices will be lower.
At the same time, according to the Ministry of Finance portal, the retail price of carrots continues to remain low. Thus, the average price of 1 kilogram of the vegetable is about 12 hryvnias, compared to 15.5−16 hryvnias in August. In September 2024, the average price of 1 kg of carrots was 16 hryvnias and rose to 21.5 hryvnias in October.
