The distribution of fuel types on the Ukrainian passenger car market is showing noticeable changes. While gasoline previously remained the undisputed leader, now more and more drivers are paying attention to electric cars and hybrids.
This is reported by Delo.ua with reference to a report by the Institute for Auto Market Research.
Domestic market
In the domestic resale segment, gasoline retains its leadership — 43% (-0.3 pp), diesel cars are holding steady — 29.1% (+0.1 pp). The share of LPG decreased to 20.9% (-0.5 pp). The most noticeable growth is shown by electric cars (4.7%, +0.7 pp) and hybrids (2.1%, +0.2 pp).
Import of used cars
Among used cars imported from abroad, gasoline cars account for 47.5% (+0.2 pp), diesel cars – 18.3% (-2.2 pp).
However, electric vehicles grew sharply to 25.6% (+2.3 pp), becoming the most dynamic segment. Hybrids retained 5.5%, LPG – 2.9%, gas cars – 0.3%.
New cars
In the new car segment, gasoline cars account for 31.6% (-2.2 pp), diesel cars – 16.9% (-2.9 pp). At the same time, the share of electric cars rose to 28% (+3.2 pp), and hybrids – to 23.2% (+1.8 pp). Thus, “green” cars have exceeded gasoline cars for the first time. Cars with LPG have almost disappeared in this segment – only 0.3%.
Analysts note that the Ukrainian car market is entering a phase of energy transition. Traditional gasoline and diesel cars still dominate, but their positions are gradually weakening. In contrast, electric cars and hybrids are steadily strengthening their shares.
As a reminder, in August 2025, the Ukrainian car fleet was replenished with 23.1 thousand used passenger cars imported from abroad. This is almost the same as in July (+0.1%), but 15.4% less than in August last year. Volkswagen is the leader in imports.
