Ruben Amorim is not taking the Europa League final for granted as he noted Manchester United have a tendency to “lose control a bit” when the going gets tough.
The United manager is adamant his side need to score in Thursday's semi-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao despite holding a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The Red Devils produced one of their best away games in Europe last week, Casemiro's goal being followed up by a Bruno Fernandes brace after Dani Vivião was sent off at an impressive San Mamés.
All 133 teams in the tournament's history that have scored three or more away goals in the first leg have progressed, with Athletic, who did not feature in this fixture, being 40-1 to reach the final on their home city, highlighting the difficulty of the task at hand.
However, it is unlikely that Amorim's men will be complacent, especially given that United are enduring their worst ever Premier League campaign and came off a stunning comeback against Lyon in the previous round.
“If you look at our season, anything is possible, so we have to be aware that one goal can change everything, turn the game around,” Amorim said.
“One sending off, you saw it last week, so we are ready to fight for the win without thinking about the result.
“Of course that's important, as is the way we're going to play, especially early in the game, but of course we're aiming to win.”
Athletic face a tough task but United have lost three times at Old Trafford this season by 0-3.
“We have to treat this game like any other game,” Amorim stressed of his approach. “I feel like we need to score to get through to the next round, so that's definitely how we're going to approach the game.”
“We were close to a draw against Brentford but we conceded one goal and then another quite quickly. It can happen.
“It's happened four times here at Manchester United
