With two rounds left in the 2025 Super League season, the top six teams are starting to emerge…

Seven teams remain in contention for the rugby play-offs: Hull KR, Wigan Warriors, Leigh Leopards, Leeds Rhinos and St Helens.

While most of the names heading to the Grand Final may be secured, there is still uncertainty as to who will finish where in the table.

So, armed with some mathematical knowledge, let's see how all this might happen…

League Leaders Shield: Hull KR will lose!

The maths for Hull is simple. Win one of their remaining games against Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves and Hull will lift the League Cup for the first time in their history.

Highlights from the Super League match between Hull KR and Hull FC

After winning the Challenge Cup they will complete the double that Robins fans have been dreaming of for so long.

If they slip up and lose both of their remaining main round matches, Wigan Warriors will need to win both of their final games against Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos by some margin to overcome the 113-point deficit in KR's favour.

Simply put: they hold the trophy in one hand and are just waiting for the time when they can win it twice.

Second place? Three teams are playing.

Highlights from St Helens v Wigan Warriors Super League clash

Now the race for second place is getting very, very interesting. Remember, it's a guaranteed home semi-final and a week off: it's a gold mine.

Wigan currently hold top spot with 38 points, with Leeds Rhinos following them on 36 and Leigh Leopards on 35.

Wigan extend their lead as Jai Field runs the length of the pitch to score from a brilliant pass from Bevan French.

If Wigan win both games, one of which is against the Rhinos, then second place and a coveted week off will be theirs.

If they win at least one game, things will get even more interesting. That would put them up 40 points, and if the Rhinos win both of their remaining games, defeating Matt Peat's team, they would also gain 40 points.

It would then come down to points, with Wigan now only 65 points ahead.

Leeds Rhinos v Hull CR Super League Highlights

Meanwhile, Leigh Leopards need to win their last two games to reach 39 points and hope Leeds Rhinos lose to Catalans and then beat Wigan. They need the Warriors to make two mistakes.

There are three horses in the race, two races left – what more could you want?

Average!

If Leopards slip up even slightly they will end up in mid-table alongside St Helens. The two teams meet on Friday in Round 26 and if Leopards win that and then lose to Huddersfield they will be on 37 points.

Warrington Wolves v Leigh Leopards Super League Highlights

That will be enough for fourth place, but whether it is enough for third will depend on how Leeds perform.

However, if Leigh lose to St Helens and Huddersfield and Saints beat Leopards and Castleford Tigers, then St Helens will beat Leopards.

Whoever finishes fourth rather than fifth will secure a home playoff game that could be decisive.

Battle for sixth place: Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity

Two teams. One place. Who will take it?

I bet fans of Hull and Wakefield Trinity Football Club are nervous about whether their teams will make the play-offs.

With two games left in the season, Wakefield Trinity have 26 points and Hull have 25 points.

For Trinity the equation is simple: beat Wigan and Salford Red Devils to reach the rugby play-offs.

If they lose either of those games they will need Hull to lose to either Warrington Wolves or Catalans Dragons, but if the Black and Whites keep up their form they will beat Wakefield in the dying minutes of the season.

So if both teams win both matches, Wakefield will go through.

If both teams lose both matches, Wakefield will progress.

If both teams win at least one match, Wakefield will advance.

Only if John Cartwright's Hull side win more will they be able to progress. They must either win twice and Wakefield win only once, or win once and Trinity lose both times.

Wakefield's advantage?
