Former Wales striker Louis Rees-Zammit has announced his return to rugby after retiring from the NFL.

Former Wales striker Louis Rees-Zammit has revealed his intentions to return to rugby after 18 months in the NFL.

Rees-Zammit signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2025 season after being part of the practice squad for the 2024 season and traveling to London for games against the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots in October.

The 24-year-old made 32 appearances for Wales before announcing his retirement from rugby in January 2024 to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL through the International Player Pathway Program.

Rees-Zammit wrote on Instagram: “I have a big announcement to make! I have decided to leave the NFL and return to rugby!”

“It was a great experience, but it was time to go home. I decided that now was the perfect time to do so, to prepare for next season.

“I have only one goal – to get back into rugby and do what I do best. I can't tell you how happy I am about that!

More news coming soon, until then, see you soon, rugby fans.

The news is likely to come as a welcome sign to newly appointed Wales manager Steve Tandy, who will take charge of a team that ended an 18-game losing streak that stretched almost two years with a hard-fought victory over Japan last month.
