Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak's situation is 'far from ideal'

Eddie Howe admits Alexander Isak's situation is “far from ideal” but he still hopes to see the inconsistent star back in a Newcastle shirt after it emerged the club have rejected a bid from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old Swede, one of the most coveted players in world football, has been the focus of interest from the Premier League champions this summer.

Isak missed out on Newcastle's pre-season tour in Asia due to what the club described as a “minor thigh injury” but his frustration was made clear as he trains with former club Real Sociedad.

“I think in my situation I'm very removed from everything that's going on at home,” Magpies coach Howe said, as reported by The Athletic.

“Yesterday I was informed that an offer had come in. The application was rejected before I even knew about it.

There are specialists in England who are dealing with this situation. I don’t really know what will happen next, but we continue to support Alex in every way possible and I still want to see him in a Newcastle shirt again.

Newcastle return from Asia following a friendly with Tottenham in Seoul, where Howe revealed he learned from the media that Isak was training in Spain with his former club.

“I know where he is from the media, so I think it's difficult for me to go into detail from that point of view,” he said.

“The situation is far from ideal. It's quite complicated. I think that's all I can say.”
